Sweep Pass

Summary

Lunge forward to get down low. Move arms from right to left, sweeping the stick along the floor. Make a connection with the ball to make the pass. End with stick pointing in the direction you want the ball to go.

Preparation

  • Flexion occurs at both knee joints to lunge. The agonists that are responsible for this are the hamstring muscles; biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus. The antagonists that work in conjunction are the quadriceps; rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius and vastus medialis.
  • Flexion at left hip joint to lunge. The agonist is the iliopsoas and the antagonist is the gluteus maximus.
  • Extension at right hip joint to lunge. The agonist is the gluteus maximus and the antagonist is the iliopsoas.
  • Horizontal flexion at shoulder joints to bring stick back. The agonists in this movement are the deltoids, the right trapezius and the left pectoral. The antagonists are the latissimus dorsi, the left trapezius and the right pectoral.

Execution

  • Rotation of the whole body. There are many different muscles involved in this movement.
  • Horizontal flexion at shoulder joints to sweep stick towards the ball. The agonists in this movement are the deltoids, the left trapezius, the right pectoral and the latissimus dorsi. The antagonists are the right trapezius and the left pectoral.

Recovery/Follow Through

  • Horizontal flexion at shoulder joints continued from the execution. The same muscles will act as the agonists and antagonists as just stated.

Hit

Summary

While on the move, cross feet over – right foot behind left for preparation. Lift arms backwards and up. Swing arms down to hit the ball with the stick.

Preparation

  • Abduction of arms at shoulder joint to raise stick backwards.  The agonists in this movement are the deltoids, the right trapezius and the left pectoral. The antagonists are the latissimus dorsi, the left trapezius and the right pectoral.
  • Flexion at elbow joints to raise stick higher. The agonist causing this to occur is the biceps brachii and the antagonist is the triceps brachii.

Execution

  • Adduction of arms at shoulder to bring stick down towards the ball. The agonists in this movement are the deltoids, the left trapezius, the right pectoral and the latissimus dorsi. The antagonists are the right trapezius and the left pectoral.
  • Extension at the elbow joints to bring stick towards the ball. The agonist here is the triceps brachii and the antagonist is the biceps brachii.
  • Rotation of the whole body. There are many different muscles involved in this movement.

Recovery/Follow Through

  • Abduction of arms at shoulder in order to follow through with the stick. The muscles involved in this are previously stated.
  • Flexion at elbow joints in order to follow through further with the stick. The agonist causing this to occur is the biceps brachii and the antagonist is the triceps brachii.
